Hi Members and Friends;
We are preparing to Celebrate the 200th Anniversary of Norwegian Immigration to the US, which has been recognized as starting in 1825 with the arrival in NYC of the little Sloop “Restauration” carrying a group of Norwegian Quakers from Stavanger.
Preparations to recognize this milestone are being made all over the US and Norway—The Norwegian American, newspaper, created a link for listing these events; https://www.norwegianamerican.com/
Then click on the (200 CROSSINGS BOX) on the left side of the page.
The NIA is planning to participate in the events happening in NYC. Details of many of these are being determined. We are participating both with the National and NYC Committees.
Already we have started to plan an event in Prospect Park on Oct 5th, 2024, to Celebrate the |10th Anniversary of the Edvard Grieg Memorial- donated to the Park by the proud Norwegian Community. It would call attention to their significant presence and be a good introduction and draw attention to the 2025 programs.
This brings us to our finances. We have not sent out any dues notices since 2021.
We have currently adequate funds to cover our payments to host our website for
2024-25. To cover the Grieg event in the fall, we need to reach out to our members and friends in order to represent the importance of this Community in this 200 year plus History. Perhaps we could also produce a 2025 Calendar.
Therefore, we appeal to our loyal members and friends to support us with dues, donations and/or by volunteering,
We have someone who is the granddaughter of Norwegian Sea-Captain who lived in Brooklyn, to help upgrade our website and help organize our archives.
