Members of the NIA have the opportunity to experience the Norwegian American immigrant through a variety of media.  The annual Miss Norway contest brings aspirants from the tri-state area and beyond. The NIA offers vintage and modern movies, a speaker’s bureau (ready to travel), tours of Norwegian New York, and an exhibit at Heritage Hall, NCHHC, 1270-67th Street, Brooklyn, New York (in the heart of the old neighborhood).

We have come a far way in documenting the contributions of Norwegian Immigrants who stayed and settled in the East instead of farming in the Midwest. However, our task is far from finished. Your families’ stories have not been recorded. Please consider helping us document the impact of Norwegians in New York. We need your enthusiasm, ideas, information, time and financial support. Here's how you can help:

DONATIONS (historic materials)

The NIA relies on donors for information. Please send the original or a copy of letters, journals, newspaper clippings, programs of events, church histories, organization records, photographs, obituaries, employment licenses and any other data about the Norwegian-American community in the New York area. The research committee will evaluate all submissions. If you wish your items returned, please indicate that with your contribution and be sure to add the return address. The collection is online, therefore, artifacts or three-dimensional articles cannot be accepted.

Email your New York immigrant material to: niahistoryonline@yahoo.com or

Send your material to: NIA, Inc., 85 East End Ave, Apt 2L, New York, NY 10028

DONATIONS (financial support)

All NIA activities are run exclusively on a volunteer basis. However, there are still expenses to be paid. We pay rent for web hosting fees and other running costs. Please consider supporting us financially either by becoming a NIA member or donating online through Paypal - click on the yellow button on the left to do so.

The NIA depends on the contributions and generosity of its members and donors.  All contributions, large and small, are essential to continuing the exhibit and the digitized collection.  Please consider investing in the future of the NIA by sponsoring either the exhibit or the website.  The NIA is a not for profit organization.  All donations are fully tax-deductible and ensure that the NIA can preserve and share a treasured legacy.
